I wrote to Brenda to ask if she and her family was okay - Brenda is the

We at the Acadian Memorial would like to let you know that our organization
was safely out of harm's way from the hurricane, unlike so many other
organizations in other areas of Louisiana that suffered such tremendous
loss.

The people from the Acadiana parishes which are near here around St. Martin,
Lafayette were spared the wrath of the most horrific storm we have ever
seen! We were safely on the west boundary of Hurricane Katrina's widespread
path! What we felt, only 2 1/2 hours away, was a windy breeze and a few
snapped limbs from trees. Our area was on the good side of Hurricanes so
we had no problems. We are sad, concerned about our New Orleans neighbors,
yet feel so very blessed.

At this point everyone has opened their hearts to help and have filled
homes, churches, auditoriums, etc. to help these people until they have a
sense of where and when they will have a place. All this is so much like
what the Acadians went through after they were deported..no homes, no money,
no jobs, and many separated from their families.

It is sad yet I don't think New Orleans will ever be the same..and it may
take years before the city is cleaned and rebuilt, yet not like it was
before!

Tell everyone that Ray and I and our families are all ok and the people in
St. Martinville & Lafayette had not one problem..we were just on the tip
edge of the path of that massive storm. We are safe and now working to help
those refugees coming in from New Orleans. This will bring us closer as we
help the less fortunate.

Thanks for thinking of us..we really appreciate it.

Fondly,
Brenda>>
