The same is true for the Intracoastal Canal and the Industrial Canal (which
connect) in New Orleans. A tremendous boost to industry in the area, but it is
"Achilles Heel" to New Orleans.
I remember years ago when I would occasionally fish in the Intracoastal
Canal and watched the banks collapse and fall into the water when ever a barge or
boat passed. This has been many years ago, so I am sure the canal is many
times wider that it was intended.
Tidal surges coming into Bay St Louis enter the canal and eventually into
the Industrial canal and Lake Ponchartrain.
