Hi Margaret,

There are also very many Acadian descendants in the New England States.
People often do not realize that there are many of us in the north as well
as in the south. What happened in the north [as I'm sure other places] is
that Acadians blended in with the French-Canadians in their parishes and
communities. It was Father Clarence d'Entremont who was instrumental in
making people more aware that there was a difference between the two
cultures. Here in New England our Acadian as well as our French-Canadian
Ancestors often changed their names to English for the sake of finding
employment. Though they had left Canada for a better life and to find
employment in the mills, signs could often been seen stating that the
"French need not apply". So you have the Acadian Aucoin family who became
Wedge; the French-Canadian Levesque who changed to Bishop; and in my own
case the LeBlanc families often became White. In fact my father's brothers
had all changed their surname to White as had my father. When he asked my
mother to marry him she told him she would only marry him if he took back
his French name, which he did. Consequently, of his brothers I know of who
were in the States, they and their families went by the name of White as had
my father until he married my mother. My father's army enlistment and
discharge papers were under the name of White. Had it not been for my
mother, I would be known as Lucie White instead of Lucie LeBlanc <smile>.

Hi,

Vincent BREAU is my 8 g grandfather, Marie Bourg my 7th and 8th g
grandmother plus 7 and 8 great grandaunt;

Germain Savoie my 7 g grandfather; Marie Brault 7 g grandmother, 6 g
grandaunt, plus 1C9R (twice); 1C8R (twice); 2C8R;

Four of Antoine and Antoinette's children are my ancestors, Two of
Vincent Breau's children,
and so on. We all have many connections to the same families.

I have been researching for over 10 years Quebecois and Acadians. I
don't recall studying about Acadians in high school, so this was all new
to me. I do remember learning to recite some of Evangeline in school.

I live in Ohio far from all the distant cousins in Louisiana and was
born in Indiana. I enjoy reading all the postings.

Hi all;

I started my genealogy journey of discovery about 2
years ago when I decided to do a "Family Tree Book"
for my Dad as a surprise for his 60th
birthday....imagine MY surprise when I found out that
the Coat of Arms we'd had hanging in the house for
years wasn't the right one!!! The message on that
BURKE Coat of Arms still applies to all
Acadian/Cajun/Catholic/persecuted people though....Vinctus Sed Non
Victus....Bound But Not Conquered.

I must say it's a good thing I live next door to my
parents as everytime I find out something new with
regard to our family's roots, I go running to share
it; if I had to hold it in for much longer than that
I'd likely break out in hives. I am very proud to have discovered my
Acadian roots and to share those roots with the wonderful family of
cousins I've found both on this list and off.

To those who have selflessly shared information with
me since starting this journey...THANKYOU...you are
terrific!!! And to those who like me have just begun
this amazing trip to the past....I think we need to
fasten our seatbelts...it only keeps getting better!!

*hugs*
