Could we do a roll call?

Who you are?

Katheryn Gallant

Where you are?

West Covina, CA -- born and bred Californian, and kind of proud of it :-)

Where & when were your families last in one of our "homelands"?

My paternal great-grandparents left Rustico, PEI for St. Alexis de
Matepedia, QC in the 1880s and then went to Lawrence, MA in 1909,
when my paternal grandfather was six years old or so.

What families are you researching? What Period?

My paternal grandfather's family (Hache-Gallant, Poirier, Arsenault,
Martin, Aucoin, Blanchard etc. -- lots of cousins marrying each
other!) is pretty well researched already (thanks to the late Father
Patrice Gallant and others), but I would like to know more details
about daily life in Acadian PEI in the 19th century.

Any other Genealogical projects you are working on?

My mother's line is mixed -- New Mexican (originally from Chihuahua,
c. 1820) on her father's side, Scots-Irish on her mother's side. My
maternal grandfather's name was Garcia -- sooo common and easy to get
mixed up -- but his mother was a Carrejo: the relative rarity of that
name makes it fairly easy to research. Also I want to know more about
my paternal grandmother's Quebecois line (Mercier, Morissette,
Pelletier, Grindler) -- it seems that the Grindlers may have been
descended from Hessians stationed in Quebec. Interesting.

Do you like the how who is related to who we do? Do more, less, too
personal?

I'm still pretty new to the group, so I'm just getting used to it.

Hold your brick walls we will try & work them after the roll call

Are you going to CMA2009 ti New Brunswick? Are your families having
reunions?

I would like to go if I have enough money. The Hache-Gallant family is
scheduled to have a reunion on August 8, 2009 in Lameque, NB. I
definitely want to go to that.

If CMA2014 is held in Louisiana well you attend it?

Maybe... it should be closer than New Brunswick, but since none of my
Acadian ancestors settled in Louisiana (as far as I know), I wonder
how much at home I would be.
