Hello Karen

Would you know where the lineage for Christopher Plaisance is posted?

The Marie Madeleine MELANSON who was born 17 Jun 1783 was not the wife of
Eloi LANDRY, according to their marriage record:

Diocese of Baton Rouge, Catholic Church Records, vol. 2, 1770-1803, pp. 422
& 536.
Eligio LANDRY, son of Marin & Pelagia LANDRY, married on 28 Dec 1801 to
Magdalena MELANSON, daughter of Joseph & Maria LeBLANC. Witnesses: Marin LANDRY;
Pablo MELANSON. Recorded at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, LA (SJA-2,
58).

The birth/baptismal record for the 1783 M.M.M. reads:
Maria Magdalena [MELANCON], daughter of Carlos & Felicitas LANDRY, born 17
Jun 1783, baptized 13 Jul 1783. Sponsors: Fermin LANDRY & Marie Magdalena
BABIN (ASC-1, 94).

The MMM married to Eloi LANDRY was the daughter of Joseph Paul MELANSON &
Marie Josephe LE BLANC, born around 1785.

Joseph Paul MELANSON was son of Alexandre MELANSON (DGFA#23, p. 1157) &
Osite HEBERT, recently proved by mtDNA results to be the daughter of Jacques
HEBERT (DGFA #13 p. 825) & Marguerite LANDRY.

E-mail from Lucie LeBlanc Consentino in Oct 2008, relaying message from
Stephen A. White.
"Christopher Plaisance's test results clear up a problem I have had for some
time with Osite Hébert. Osite was married twice, but the record of her
second marriage, at least as transcribed in the Diocese of Baton Rouge series,
does not mention the fact that she was a widow. Additionally, her appearance in
the 1777 census tells us nothing about her marital status at that time,
beyond showing her without a spouse. And when she died in 1805, her burial record
was written up to call her the widow of her first husband. Consequently. I
always thought that there were actually two Osite Héberts in Louisiana, one of
whom was married to Alexandre Melanson, and the other to Augustin Boudrot.
Moreover, I thought that there was only one Augustin Boudrot, and that his wife
Osite had died by 1778, when he married secondly Judith Martin. Mr.
Plaisance's mtDNA test results confirm, however, that there was only one Osite (which
is what my database indicates anyway) because the maternal line of the woman
who married Augustin Boudrot in 1771 leads directly to Perrine Rau, and the
test results show (as Karen has mentioned) that it is Perrine Rau's mtDNA
that has been passed down by the woman who married Alexandre Melanson. A letter
written by Nicolas Verret to the Spanish governor de Unzaga several months
after Osite's marriage to Augustin states that the latter had been informed
that a large sum of money was due to him in Canada, and that he had requested
permission to go get it, promising to return. There is nothing to show,
however, that he actually did come back, and the fact that Osite had no husband in
1777 and reverted to being called the widow Melanson suggests strongly that he
did not return."

Very exciting proofs (or disproofs) of lineage now available from
mitochondrial DNA tests!
