Shirley,
Sorry, I don't have a copy of the deed. This would be about 4 years after
Robert and sister Nancy moved to Georgia. Would this be a land transfer from
Robert to his mother, Elizabeth Adair? Would this be the 26 ac (surveyed for
Daniel Stringer in 1792) that Robert Adair was granted Jan 3, 1803, in "the
District of Pendleton on a Branch of Wilson's Creek waters of Savannah River,
bounded by lines running NE by John Caldwells Land, NW by Elizabeth Adairs
Land, SW by John Parkers Land"? Do you know where this deed might currently
be found?....I would also like to find the original grant to Elizabeth that
is inferred above...In a very confusing aside, I have a copy of a grant dated
May 1, 1786, to Elizabeth Adair for 200 ac "Situate in the District of ninety
Six, So Side of Saluda above the Line on the waters of Wilsons Creek". I had
assumed that this was Robert's Mother Elizabeth until I located the waters of
Wilsons Creek on the So Side of Saluda. This Wilson's Creek runs into the
Saulda a few miles East of the old town of Ninety Six. The other Wilson's
Creek (Robert Adairs land) runs into Rocky River a few miles above the
confluence of Rocky River and the Savannah River. The Savannah and Rocky
rivers form the Richard B. Russell Lake that lies on the Georgia-South
Carolina border in Abbeville County near the town of Pendleton. Perhaps
Elizabeth had holdings on both Wilson's Creek!! They are about 40 miles
apart. John Adair received a grant on Cane Creek a branch of the Keowee,
which is NW of the present town of Pendleton. That would place him about 30
miles NW of Robert Adair's land on Wilson's Creek. The other Adairs
(Alexander, James and John -maybe not the same John as above ) all seemed to
have received grants along Duncan's Creek and the Enoree River in Laurens Co.
....So I would like to obtain the afore mentioned deed to Elizabeth and
locate that land..and if it had Robert's seal, that would really be
interesting.....Always Looking, Ed
