Message Board Post:
There is another connection between William Adair and the Robys in Wilkes County. In 1801 William sold the remainder of his land in Wilkes County to Williamson Roby. This included the house that his son Robert lived in. By this time Bozeman was settled on his land to the West in Jackson/Madison County, GA. Robert and William may have moved there. It was here that the estates for William, Robert, and John Adair were played out in 1804 and 1805. In 1806 Williamson Roby sold the exact tract of land that he bought from William to Jepe Mclain. Listed as a witness to this deed is Bozeman Adair.
Based on the above there is clearly a stronger link between William/Bozeman Adair and these Roby boys. In the last mentioned deed Nancy Roby also placed her mark. Many old time Adair researchers have listed a Nancy as a daughter of William. I have not seen any direct proof of that. A Nancy Adair was listed as a buyer in the John Adair estate sale, in 1806 a Nancy Adair married Issac Oak in Wilkes County. This Nancy may be a daughter of William, or a widow of John, or maybe the wife of Williamson Roby? I really don't know. Does anyone else know? After this 1806 transaction I can find no more trace of Williamson Roby. Does anyone know what became of him?
Below are my two references for the above mentioned deeds.
They can also be seen on my website under construction.
