HUSBAND Zebulon "Zeb" Moore SANTEE-841
OBITUARY Z M SANTEE
Zebulon Moore Santee, son of Benjamin and Sara Amelia Santee, was born at
Rivana, Mercer Co., Missouri on August
9, 1857. His father was a soldier in the Civil War and died in the service
near its close: leaving his mother with her
family of 8 children to care for, the oldest being about 14 years of age.
The mother and all of his brothers and sisters
have preceded Mr. Santee in death. At a very early age Mr. Santee began
earning his own way in life and at the age of 16 began working on a farm,
but not long afterward began railroading which he has followed ever since.
He began working for the Chicago, Milwaukee , and St. Paul railroad in the
fall of 1880 and with the exception of one or two short periods he has
spent the rest of his life in their employ, serving as firemen, engineer,
and as age advanced, round-house foreman, and as sight became impaired he
was transferred to the care of the pumping plant in Mystic, Iowa in
February 1911, where he has since labored on May 11, 1931 at 12:15 pm and
passed away at 6:30 that evening at the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 2
days. Mr. Santee was married on February 29, 1880 to Miss Frances Viola
Adcock, of near Ottumwa, Iowa and to whom three children were born: Ernest
E., of Ottumwa, Iowa, Geor. L. of Nevada, Missouri, and Mrs Alice Amelia
Camp, of Chicago, Ill. There are seven grandchildren, a grandson preceded
the grandfather in death, who was buried the second day of last month and
with this excpetion Mr. Santee leaves his entire family to mourn his
death. He was a member of the L.D.S. church, in Centerville, Iowa and has
very positive in his Religious convictions and appreciated the Christian
fellowship of both old and young.
