Laurie - I'm interested in how others more knowledgeable will answer your
posting. However, it is my gut feeling to answer with a resounding NO, that
the memoirs are NOT your source. You are unable to view them to verify that
they even exist. And, as you have stated, the composer of the emails hasn't
stated that their contents equal a complete transcript so you cannot even
state that you have that. Your source is the emails and their contents.
Your e-mail message citation would include the author's name
of the emails, the subject of the emails, the sender's email address, the
sender's mailing address, the recipient (in this case, your name), and the
date - according to Evidence, by Elizabeth Shown Mills, (Genealogical
Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore,Md. 1998, p.80). In this case, you would
include the note that the author cites his source as the memoirs and claims
to have them in their possession.
