I'm in complete agreement with this strategy. Although I don't have a
website, I've given considerable thought to what I would put on one if I
did. My thinking is that I've spent hundreds (thousands?) of hours putting
together my family history, as carefully and accurately as possible. Why
should I give that away to everyone who just happens by my website, whether
they're related or not? I'm willing to (and do) share my work with other
serious researchers who also share with me and with interested known
relatives. I think providing enough information so that possible relatives
can contact you for further joint exploration of any links, without giving
away your entire body of work, is a good solution.
