This is the last census in which I've been able to locate Sallie. However I've found some of his sons in later census records, and they have stated their father was born in Ohio. Jonathan and Sarah were married in Indiana in 1834. Sarah was born in Kentucky. Per the 1850 Census, Jonathan was born about 1810.

If he does not appear in any Census before 1850 then he was living with
another family, most likely his parents or his wife's parents. You now
have that his wife was Sally Mahan. You can look at the Cox and Mahan
families living in southern Indiana. From the ages of the people you
probably can find the family where they were living or at least two or
three. Then you can eliminate families from other sources until you
have only one.

Giving information in your query on who and what you are looking for
will come up with better answers that just a general question.
