I have information on a lot of living people in my genealogy file. Whenever
I share information with people, I make sure to "privatize" the file so that
no information on living people is included. Given that there is so much
identity theft happening these days, I have made this promise to my family
who have willingly given me their personal information.
I, too, have thought about putting up a website or posting the family file
to ancestry.com but have been reluctant to do so for many of the reasons
stated on this list. One thing I do is post queries, which include a small
list of a specific family, on the various surname boards at
rootsweb/ancestry.com. I also post queries at some of the county genweb
sites. If someone is searching for those family members, they can find me
through the message boards. I've always been glad to share with someone who
asks. Just as others have shared with me.
