If Lloyd West died prior to emancipation of the slaves, you may find probate
records listing the slaves by name if bequeathed to family members, and
inventory listing of his property at time of death, and possibly a bill of
sale if the slaves were sold as part of settlement of his estate. There may
also be indentures if the slaves were "hired out" to others, but this didn't
always happen. You may also check for the West surname in an index of court
records to see if other West's in the area may have owned slaves and maybe
at one time included your subject. Try looking for index books for probate
records, etc. to first determine if Lloyd West or others are noted in such
documents.
