On the WWI Draft Registration card of James Ray
JAMESON, he gave his "Permanent Home Address" as
"Granby[,] Hartford [County,] Ct." Then, underneath
his signature at the bottom of the first page is
written "Box 88 Tariffvile Conn."
My question is this: was it common in this place and
time (1918, Hartford County, Connecticut), or in
general in the United States, for people to receive
their mail at a post office box instead of at their
home? Is it a safe assumption that "Box 88 Tariffvile
Conn." was James Ray JAMESON's postal delivery
address?
