I've found a Charles Coats wife Sohpia in the Montgomery County MD
land records, 1750s/1760s, I do believe him to be the father of Notley
Coats in Chester County MD, 1784. In these same land records is
William Coats wife Mary, stated in the deed as Charles Coats, his
father...now the time frame fits with other Coats in the
Chester/Kershaw areas of SC...

Question:

The William Coats in Newberry/Kershaw County SC is listed with a wife
named Frances, now no where in the records in SC did I see a reference
to Mary...is it possible this Mary Coats in MD could also be Mary
Frances Coats in SC, using the name Frances in SC rather than
Mary...we have at least 3 other William and Mary Coats in SC...I've
had other family lines where the wife was Esther in WVA and Hester in
MO...so that seems feasible to me...

My line that comes out of this is Rev William Coats wife Nancy Baker,
she's the daughter of John Baker and Anne out of VA, SC, Logan County
KY, TN dies in Wilson County TN in 1844...but Rev Will's first child a
daughter was named Mary, this is the only reference to a Mary I've
found connected to this family, so that likewise makes it
plausible...the name Frances also runs in his children...James Coats
and Rachel Jackson, may like wise be the son of Charles Coats and
Sophia, Rachel also is the name of Rev Will's second daughter, his
first son being named James...so that seems to also lend some
credibility to this...this again is the only reference to a Rachel
I've seen for this family in this time frame...

Any comments welcome?
