Subject: [ADVANRES] ROY VARBLE LEAD FAILS
Date: Sun, 11 Nov 2007 08:57:49 -0500
I want to thank everyone who helped me with suggestions about my search for my grandfather Roy Jospeh Varble AKA Roy V. Flick. Unfortunately the lead was a false one and I am left with nothing again.
I give this as a reminder to us all. We all have false leads and often go astray on a wild-goose chase. We all have been there and we all will continue to go there. It is just one of the hazards of genealogical research. I gathered from each of you who helped me some very good suggestions and comments that I will follow through on. I am sorry that the situation got intense early on and I certainly did not intend to be rude or hurt anyone's feelings. It is mostly after a very stressful that that I can be online and often my thinking is off key.
This is the letter I received from the reseacher:
I just opened a letter from you. I feel so bad that you relied on the
information I presented online. Unfortunately I made a mistake and gave
the children of Jim Anderson and Susan Lenettie Varble Anderson, the
last name of Varble. That includes Roy. They actually have the last name
of Anderson. So, Roy Anderson is not Roy Varble. I noticed my error
after receiving your email. I am so sorry. You have worked so hard and I
lead you down the wrong path. Again, I apologize.
And this is my reply to her:
I may be let down and disapointed that yet another lead has failed. I have
been there many times before. However I am not mad at you. I am glad that I
can close the file on this. I do hope that somehow Familysearch.org can take
this off of their site lest anyone else sees it, and it puzzle them as mush
as it did me.
I do not know what the procedure is to remove it from online. Unfortunately
internet genealogy is filled with many bits of misinformation, and of course
genealogists and family historians must forever be diligent to "prove all
things" to the best extent possible.
I wish you well. Thanks for replying to my letter/email.
Menwhile, I press forward in my long enduring quest.
Mr. Eddy A. Flick
