Why on earth can I only find a family that I know lived in NYC from 1850 to at least 1895 (husband's death) on one census? I have tracked Peter Scherrer in the city directories for every year and for half the time he lived on one street; when one son died, all of them moved to a different area of town. But I can only find them on the 1880 census ( the one without a wife listed as his wife is dead by then). There are several Peter Scherrer's in NYC at that time, so that makes it difficult. Is there another way to try besides the usual? I would like to see if there are any more children that I don't know about. Sue
