I got his Compiled Service Records off Footnote. Twenty-one pages. He
fought at Shiloh, Murfreesboro, and several other well known battle fields.
The pension files for his unit aren't complete on Footnote yet, so I will
have to keep checking there. His name is spelt differently on each Muster
Roll. The modern spelling is Victory, but I am finding that pre1900, the
name is almost always Vickrey or a variation of that.
In 1860, he's a laborer in the home of Eli Jenkins, his brother-in-law. In
1870, he's married and has several kids. In 1880, I found a family that is
identical to his, but the name of the Head of Household is Burnett Curtis.
Not sure if the enumerator got the wrong name, there was another man with
the first name Burnett who had children with the exact same names and ages
as my Burnett Vickrey, or if he was using an assumed name for some reason.
In 1900, his wife is head of household and she's a Victory. But I would
really love to find that 1850 census enumeration. Problem is the 10th
district of Bedford County, which is where I believe he was living, was lost
or not enumerated in 1850. I have been looking at the deeds and probate
records of Bedford County and haven't found him yet. I have to order a few
more rolls to be 100% sure he did have any will or deeds in Bedford County.
I have already checked in Rutherford County, where the family (later
generations) lived.
I have read the enumerations page by page for all the areas where I find any
Vickrey in TN hoping that the name was overlooked or misindexed. I have
searched ancestry for me named Burnett (Burnet, Burnice...)
