Just repeating my earlier plea in case anyone has any information to help with the query below.
I am very new to this list and not exactly sure how it works.
I am researching ancestors who came to Sierra Leone from England in the early 19th century as missionaries. The surname is MURRUS/MURRIS/MERCESS and apparently the person, whose christian name I do not know at this stage, brought his wife and family with him. His wife died and he then remarried a local girl. One of the children of this second marriage, born around 1820, then came back to England and is the subject of this search. He may have been called Edward Muruss but not 100% sure. In the family records which we already have, there is a Louise Palmer Murrus marrying in 1870. Her father was Edward Murrus and her mother Emma Muruss born around 1820. No more facts known about father Edward so far. He is described as a commercial traveller on his daughter's marriage certificate. I cannot find a birth for him anywhere in British records.
Any help would be much appreciated and reciprocated if needed.
Regards
Diana Ingram
