Different Andrews and location on coast at Donaghadee. But Capt Andrew 1689 prob on side of William of Orange.

Andrew Agnew of Donaghadee Co Down was a merchant. 1649-1724 m Janet Glen son William Agnew 1690-1733 sister Jean. Will m Janett McMinn daughter of bro of Francis McMinn and grandaughter Andrew McMinn. Will's son Andrew Agnew.

Property in North St Belfast rented by Andrew Agnew merchant to an Andrew and John. Book of Ags reckons that's proof that Andrew and John were the later Sir Andrew(Alex Whytthillls bro) and John Derra par Finvoy buried Ballymoney 1723 Alex's son? says Bk of Ag. Robert Ross the witness.

In about 1700 Andrew Agnew the merchant of Donaghadee organised repairs to Galdenoch mylne (mill) half paid for by Sir Andrew. So helping out his bankrupt brother Patrick of Galdenoch who by 1705 had sold it. He went broke investing in saltworks I believe from Galdenoch Castle webpage (well just a Tower House really).

If you check out early refs in Belfast Newsletter you can see that the Agnews had ships going from Whitehaven Wigtown to Belfast but originally to Carrickfergus and there's another Capt Agnew at Newry. I think they started with the Irish Sea trade and went on to transporting convicts to USA West Indies, emigrants and slaves. I wonder if Dobson's scots to west indies has any info.
