I have looked up Coxey in the Dead Towns in Alabama book by W. Stuart Harris and it is not listed there either. I also searched epodunk.com and it is not listed. If you google Coxey Alabama there are some hits - it is in Limestone County.
Hope this helps!

| I cannot tell you where Coxey, Alabama "was". However, I have a
current
| edition of the Rand McNally Road Atlas and Coxey is in the same category
as
| where my grandparents were born - it isn't listed! My non existence town
| was Bexar in Marion County. I do not know what the total number of
| residents living in the small hamlets permits the map creators to delete
| them . I still have my children's World Book Encyclopedias (1965
edition)
| and it still lists Bexar with 300 residents. This town isn't on the
current
| maps. The location of where my 3G grandparents settled in 1836 was called
| Stonetown; however, that was renamed Shottsville for the postoffice (A
| Shotts son-in-law petitioned to get a post office in the area). In 1965
| Shottsville listed 200 residents.
|
| What this suggests is Coxey's number of households or the number or
| residents dropped to somewhere below 200 and disappeared from maps
sometime
| before 1965! or else it would still be listed.
|
| I urge you to write to Genealogy.com-Family Tree Maker Family History
| http://genealogy.com/index_a.html (note _ in the space!). Click on
| Community and when the drop down appears, click on message boards. The
next
| "page" will have a message for you to type in Alabama Genealogy.
This
will
| place your message to all Alabamians as well as the rest of the country
and
| there just might be someone that faithfully reads these messages who will
| know of Coxey, Alabama. And whatever you do, please don't give up! I
have
| discovered a name that I recognized in a message placed 5 or 6 years ago
and
| write to it and did get a reply! This doesn't answer your question
today,
| but when working in genealogy, those brick walls are hard to penetrate.
|
| I don't remember the approximate number totaling the queries; however,
| you can read through these as you have time (just jot down the query # so
| you can "go to" that number when you next have a little time and it
wont
| take you too long to read to the first one in about 1998 or 99. Be sure
| that you mark this as a FAVORITE so it is easy to get back to it. . . .
|
| I wish you good luck on this day when we say: Happy Labor Day!
