Thank you so much for the two replies. I certainly know a lot more than I did before and will check out the site where I can order his service record. John Robertson was my grandfather. Another of his sons was William George Robertson, who was probably the W. G. mentioned. My grandfather, Samuel Luther Robertson was another son who served in the war. He was in the Cavalry. I have the application of my grandmother for his pension. Perhaps I can get the service records for all three. That would be really wonderful. I had wondered about illness in Rufus's case since I found no battles in which he could have been killed or wounded.
