Fay in Texas you are right on the mark. I sang this song to my children (5) so
I sang it a lot. There is another song I have been looking for the writer of
both music and words, it is "THAT'S WHAT GOD MADE MOTHERS FOR" my mother sang
it to me about 75 years ago, and her mother sang it to her when she was a
child.
The words are something like this;

To watch over you wheh a baby,
to sing you to sleep with her songs,
to comfort and cheer you
to try to be near you
to teach you the right from the wrong

To do all she can to make you a man
and over a million things more,
to cry for you, to sigh for you,
yes even die for you,
Thats what GOD made MOTHERS for.

I wish I could find someone that knows the tune and the correct words, I think
these are the correct words . I sang this to my children, my grandchildren and
my g/grandchildren. I am not much at singing and I may have the wrong tune, I
would be so proud if I could fine the sheet music for it.
Thanks, Lonell Lincoln
