I had another thought about obits and funeral homes. There is a directory
of funeral homes. One of our area libraries has it, I think the one nearest
my house. When I go there this afternoon I'll check to see if it has
anything with dates funeral homes were established that might help locate
the one that handled this funeral. JIm Reeder

Subject: [ALBARBOU] Obituary Help - Clio Alabama
Hi,
Good suggestions for assistance with the Clio, Alabama obituary; however,
don't think Clio ever had a funeral home until very recently. And
unfortunately, the Clio Baptist Church doesn't have a cemetery, at least
the one right down-town doesn't. However, there are cemeteries near the town
of Clio. I would guess that the most used one for the Clio Baptist Church
probably would be the Pea River Cemetery. And since Clio doesn't have a
newspaper, probably the Clayton Record newspaper carried the obit, if any
newspaper did. I doubt if the newspaper charged at that time, but now the
Dothan Eagle and others ARE charging "an arm and a leg" (I was recently
told) to run an obit. Now that info has not been verified, so might be a
rumor (certainly hope so).
I don't know the answer,....does the Clayton Library have an obituary file?
I know that Eufaula does, but doubt that they would have obits for Clio.
Ozark, Brundidge and even Headland funeral homes used to cover the Clio
area. Didn't live in the state in the 70's so not sure what funeral homes
would have been used at that time.
There has to be an answer....we will keep thinking. The death record may be
the only answer unless it is determined which funeral home conducted the
funeral.
