I have forwarded your message to the Barbour County mail list.
There are a lot of local researchers and someone may even be searching the
same surnames.
Take a look at the Barbour site. I have a little Herring info there since
my Melissa Glover married a Herring.

Subject: branch family
Hello,
I'm looking for records of my ancestors, the family headed by Charles J
Branch and his wife Nancy Herring. They farmed in Barbour Co from early
1840s to late 1860s before migrating to Texas. Both are listed in censuses
as b NC, but I have not been able to locate either in NC resources. They
had possibly 11 children, although it's difficult to decipher the
handwriting on the censuses, some may be duplicates. I would like to
correctly identify the children, b & d dates, etc. Some of the males may
have served the Confederacy. Fed gen land off records show Chas J Branch
acquiring these properties in Barbour Co:
Jun 1845 33/10N/26E
Sep 1858 33/10N/26E
The wife Nancy may have died prior to the family's migration to Texas; she
does not appear on the 1870 Tx census with the family.
I'm attaching a word file showing the descendancy. I'm planning to make a
trip to Alabama in early Nov and would like to gather whatever info I can
before arriving. Would greatly appreciate any advisement, sources to search
before the trip and while I'm there, possible church, cemetery records, etc.
Please let me know if I can provide any other details that may be
helpful ---- Thank you!
