Subject: [ALBERTA-L] McKinney to Canada
Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 08:11:49 EDT
Hello,
Don't think I have enough info to do any good, but James McKinney (brother to
my direct line) was born about 1852/54 in Polk Co., Missouri to John Vardaman
& Rachel L. (Payne) McKinney. He "went west" as a young man, and no one has
found him since. He supposedly went to Montana or Wyoming, and one elderly
relative thinks he remembers his father saying that "Uncle Jim drove a
stagecoach for a while in Colorado". However, a few years ago, I spoke with
a lady in her 90's who was his niece, here in Polk Co., MO., and she
remembers that "uncle Jim" came back to Polk Co. to visit in 1922, from
Canada, while she was a busy young woman with children. She didn't remember
much, but thinks he came from Alberta, and that he was or had been married,
and had a son, she thought named "Howard" who had a child. but, the
kicker--she says he had changed his name from McKinney to just Kinney. (I
don't know the spelling of that, but am assuming he just dropped the Mc).
Does anyone have any idea where to even START to locate him in any sort of
census, or anything? He would have been about 70 when he came to visit MO
again, so probably didn't live a whole lot of years longer. Thanks for any
ideas or suggestions. I have no idea what year he might have chosen to go to
Canada from the western states that he originally went to. If I can exchange
MO help, I will be happy to. Judy
