Hi Folks,
I am making a quick visit to your list in the hope that someone will
recognize the following people and can give us some information on how
they came to be in Medicine Hat in 1917.
John Halliday, carp(enter?), Medicine Hat, 1917 City Directory
wife Mary Helen McClure.
He was not listed in the 1913 directory, the only earlier directory
available at the National Archives.
A 1920 will, which we found in Scotland, left property to Mary Helen
McClure, wife of John Halliday, at 716 11th Street, Medicine Hat. The
1917 directory gave an address of 1116 8th Avenue.
We have no previous information on John Halliday, but do know, thanks to
an entry to a codicil to the will, that he moved to Vancouver where we
followed him in the directories up to 1949, a son Nathan McClure
Halliday to about 1986, and the son's wife to the 1998 telephone
directory.
There was also a Nathan McClure in the 1917 Medicine Hat directory
residing at 1112 8th Avenue, close enough physically and by virtue of
the name Nathan to suggest a relationship between him and Mary Helen
McClure, John Halliday's wife.
I would much appreciate any help given.
Thanks,
Pete in VT, USA
