Hi Catherine;
The Western Land Grants were issued by the Federal Government. Copies of
the grants can be obtained only from the National Archives. I ordered
one for my wife's grandfather which gave the legal description of the
land homesteaded from which I was able to trace its location to a map of
Saskatchewan in this case. The cost is rather inexpensive at 10 cents
but the document is very interesting and worthwhile having. I was lucky
in having a relative in Ottawa who kindly went to the National Archives
and got the copy for me which he mailed. The size of the document is
about 17 inches by 11 inches.
Good luck
