Subject: [ALBUTLER] UPDATE #19
Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2000 02:52:01 EST

Well, Folks....

Kay Anderson has done it again. Her fingers should be fairly tired as she is
now transcribing the 1860 Butler Census index. The first part (surnames A-F)
is now online, with a small section of surnames that begin with "G". I am
certain this will be a BIG help to many researchers. Thanks Kay.

Also, Margie Kinney-Butler of Nacogdoches, TX has identified the church in
the pre-1910 photo. It is the Georgiana Methodist Church that burned in
1912. She found a photo of the burning church which was reprinted in a 1972
issue of the Butler County Historical Society newsletter. According to the
article the church was established in 1886. It would be nice to obtain
permission to reprint the article on the web site, but that may not be
possible. We are trying.

Margie's name will soon be added to the list of researchers. She is a
descendant of Kincey Lewis Davis' sister Nancy. He was builder of the first
saw mill in Chapman. Davis died on the same day the church burned, March 17,
1912.

PLEASE check the update from the Heritage Book Committee. It was updated
today and the committee is needing some specific photos:

50TH ANNIVERSARY PHOTOS
VETERANS OF BUTLER COUNTY.... all wars

The details are listed on the update. If you have questions, contact George B. Lewis. Remember, though, the
deadline is still MARCH 31, 2000.

That's all for now...
