I'm really not familiar with the ancestry of the Lyles family, but do you
know if any one of the men went to Texas? If so, and you are searching for
one who got 'lost', then check the 1920 soundex. You'll probably find a John
Lyles, as a son, on the census in Rusk County. J.H. >>
Hi
The Liles and Lyles names seem to have been pretty interchangable in early
records - other spellings also possible -
According to family history - Hamp or Hampton (born 1790?) went to Texas with
sons Thomas, George and Solomon or Sol about 1865. Assume wife Rebecca had
already died. Son William had married Martha Ann Shows and stayed in AL.
Daughter Rebecca Jane married Nathaniel Rogers and Stayed in Alabama.
Hampton, Sherwood/Sherrod/Sherd, and Cassius were sons of Rev war soldier
John Lyles b 1755 SC. Sherrod and Cassius also seem to have stayed in Alabama
