I sent a response to Wilda's message and then realized I should have
sent it to the entire list. This is my personal ideas of how we should
go about the pioneer project. I'm open to suggestions.
Probably a type of family group sheet layout would be best.
I think we should have a cut off date of 1850. We can use the 1820
census as a starting point and stop at 1849. The 1850 census started
showing lots of info and things got easier to track after that but would
be VERY hard for us to manage on the web page. County was growing and
people were moving.
It would probably be best to start with census heads of house holds
maybe in spread sheet format and show age, wife, number of kids etc. (no
more than maybe 6 columns of information).
Then have a link from each name to additional pages for each family.
Some families will have lots of info and some will not. This way we can
decide individually how to format the additonal info and not have to
stick to the exact same format.
Probably on each family page we need to have birth, death, marriage
dates for husband and wife, and each child.
We need to show childrens spouses and their children. We also need to be
able to show sources and who submitted the info somewhere. We should
probably not try to go down more than 4 generations max. Maybe just to
the pioneers grandchildren and spouses? Surely everyone could connect up
from there.
This will not be too hard to change and update. I will try to get a
test page up before monday to give you an idea of what it can look like.
We will probably have to change our format several times before we get
it right.
