I updated my survey of Eulaton United Methodist Church Cemetery today. The
church was established in 1884.
My apologies to the list, but I'd like to give notice to two readers that I
know are reading this with bulging eyes:
First, PATSY CHILDS:
I know I promised too long ago that I would double check the YOB for Columbus
ALLEN. I did today and "I WAS RIGHT" ... His NEW marker (shared with Rachel)
has 1848. However, I checked his OLD marker (broken from base, lying flat on
ground, and cracked side-to-side directly across his day and year of birth). I
took tools-of-the-trade with me and I'm pretty sure it has 1843, which means
"YOU WERE RIGHT". 1843 is consistent with all census records. Apparently his
old marker was already broken when Rachel died in 1932 and their daus +/or
sons-in-law misread the old marker. You'll also be glad to hear that the sinkholes
on the grave of Nancy Allen-MARTIN have been filled.
Second, CAROL CANTRELL:
I promised you this morning that I would look for your HAYNIE at Eulaton
Meth. Sorry, no marked graves for them. However, I can provide some HAYNIE clues.
Robert Charles HAYNIE and wife Avillah/Ada YORK, and Robert's father George
are the only three HAYNIE buried there. The grave of George HAYNIE (1800-1863)
consists of a homemade, upright rock slab, barely readable as follows: "In
Memory Of George Haynie Borned Mar The _8 Died Mar/May The __ __6 3" (several
inches between 6 and 3).
George is buried about 15ft. to the left of Robert. However, Roberts military
marker is placed 2ft. to the left of George (17ft. from Roberts actual
grave). Between Robert and George is another rock slab (smaller version of George's)
with a rusty metal funeral home marker. It may be George's wife, Elizabeth A.
RODDAN, but has nothing inscribed. Between this small rock slab and the grave
of Robert are two small rocks. Since the three known HAYNIE graves are
aligned (and Robert's military marker), it would be easy to assume the small rocks
and the small rock slab, located in between, are also HAYNIE burials.

The largest in the county. I started in Spring 2003 with breaks for Spring
rain, Summer heat, Winter cold, sore feet and aching muscles!!
