Hi everyone. I've been trying for several years to verify a connection
between the Dennis and
Swords lines in Lincoln Co.,Ga and later in Autauga/Chilton Co., Al. for
the Dennis' and Walton/
Newton Co., GA for the Swords. I was looking based on the slim lead that a
researcher in the 1940's filed for SAR membership based on the Rev. War
service of James Swords of Lincoln and Walton Cos.,GA. It stated that his
dau. Elizabeth Swords was the wife of Jacob Dennis of Autauga Co., AL. I've
never been able to come close to proving it but tax digests show the
families living very close in Lincoln Co., Ga for many years.
In filing some records for the Dennis family I noticed that a son of Joel
Dennis, Joel Mack Dennis death records showed his mother's maiden name as
Millie Swords. However the marraige records show her as Amelia Morgan (m.
30 May 1833). Does anyone know if she was previously married? She was 5
years older than him and at 22 could easily have been a widow.
