Surname: MARTIN, WALKER, WEEKS, FREEMAN, ALLEN, PEARSON, BRUCE, OWENS
-------------------------
Hi Bill, I am a descendant of James Franklin MARTIN & Margaret WALKER who
are buried at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Lineville, Clay, AL,
through their son, Chesley Burton MARTIN.
James F. MARTIN & known siblings, Asberry; Patsey; Beatrice; Elizabeth;
two other unknown daughters; & Tolliver MARTIN were the chn of John MARTIN
& Abigail (Gilley) FREEMAN. These MARTINs came from Edgefield District,
SC. James F. MARTIN & family moved to Cowetta Co., GA, bet. 1850-1854,
then to Talledega Co., AL, and on into Clay Co., AL.
Known chn of James F. MARTIN & Margaret WALKER are: Frances m. 1st Newt
PEARSON, 2nd Melton SMITH; Caroline m. John Jackson ALLEN; Chesley Burton
m. Martha Adeline WARE (they are my gg-grandparents); William Pheris m.
Berthena OWENS; Martha m. Dr. George SIMS; Henry Harrison m. Sara Ann Bethany
BRUCE; Samuel (Bud) d. in Civil War; Sanders (Dink) m. 1st Lydia BRUCE,
2nd Clementine McCORMICK; James Allen m. 1st Miss WEST, 2nd Lucinda HANNA;
& Mitchell Chesley m. Martha McCORMICK.
I am interested in whether you know if your John W. MARTIN is related to
my MARTINs? I have had such a difficult time tracing my MARTINs further
back than John MARTIN & Abigail FREEMAN. There is conflicting information
that makes it almost impossible to get all of the John, James, & William
MARTINs separated as I work back into the 1700s in SC.
Thank you for any information that you can provide to me. Vickie,
