Subject: [ALCULLMA] MERRITT (all spellings)

Does anyone know of any Merritts (spelled Merrett, Marrett, and many
other ways...) living in Blount County between 1870 and 1900. They
started in central Alabama before moving to Blount and later on to
Cullman.
What I'd really like to find out is any information on a Wiley or Willie
Merritt (spelled Merrett and Marrett, etc, etc.) living there. His age
would be between 30 and 50 between 1870 and 1900. My theory is below:
Wiley Merritt, born around 1780 to 1800 (location?)
his son:
John Merritt, born in 1814 in NC, for certain (not sure which county)
and his son:
Wiley Merritt, born around 1838
siblings of this younger Wiley (b. around 1838) are:
Carolina b. 1841 NC
Elizabeth b. 1843 NC
Sarah b. 1845 NC
John b. 1855 AL
George b. 1858 AL
I think they all moved to Montgomery right around 1845 and stayed there
until at least 1864 near the end of the war. Then they moved to Blount
and then Cullman.
I would appreciate anything on a Wiley or Willie Merritt (any
spelling....) as head of household or as living with other Merritts
during this time.
Thanks very much for your help,
Sherry Sheridan
