I have a copy of FORGOTTEN TRAILS: A History of Dale County, AL: 1824-1996
by Fred S. Watson and have found it to be interesting reading as well as an
excellent research source.

This book has been out of print for several years but is now back in print.

"It tells of the lore, the land, the men and women, the institutions and the
hope that made Dale county. After an introduction with such tales as "The
McSween Murders," Mr. Watson tells of the formation, topography, customs,
and personalities of Dale county. He describes its towns and settlements,
its variegated religious heritage, and its prominent people. This book is a
must for anyone who has lived in this area."

"Genealogists will find the last three chapters of the book particularly
useful. A complete listing for Dale county is given of Confederate veterans,
public officials, including some biographical sketches, and the heads of
families according to the Census of 1830."
