Melanie and Ron,

There are some marriages mentioned in the book, "Marriages Compiled From
Early Newspapers" by Helen S. Foley, Alabama Series, Volume 1, American
Reference Publishers, Fort Worth, TX 76116, 1971.

I looked at this book while visiting the Birmingham Public Library.
The information contained in this book was taken from Barbour and Henry
Counties newspapers dating from 1846 to 1890 according to the listings in the
Appendix.

My Dale County great-grandparents marriage of 1875 was printed in the Ozark
Star and picked up by The Henry County Register in Abbeville, AL. Before
this, the only proof was the census listings. From the date of this
publication, at least I have the closest date of their actual marriage I'll
ever obtain since the Dale County Courthouse has had several fires.

Certainly hope this book will assist others in learning about the marriages
of their ancestors.
