We have all seen some strange entries on census. Ran across one today that
I just had to share with all of you. Don had a g. grandfather on his
mother's side who was named Robert and was a twin, the other boy named John.
The boys were born in 1867. I have had the 1870 census ordered in for many
months, finally got it in. Primarily got it to just have a xerox copy for
our records.
Found the family -- father, mother and three children older than the boys.
Where the boys should have been listed, it was "JTR" age 2 M W
born AL.
Had to wait until we got the entry under the magnifying glass. It says, and
I quote --
"J + R". The census taker in this census was great for writing initials
down about half the time. In this case of twins, he put them both on the
same line!!
Had we not known that there were twin boys, and had the proof, we would be
forever looking for a male JTR.
Have seen some good ones, but this one so far takes first prize.
