CORNER'S VERDICT
Georgia, Franklin County, Georgia

In accordance with the inquisition taken this the 30th day of September
A.D. 1891, before W. H. Sorrows, coroner of said County, upon the body of J. S.
Dortch, then and there laying by the roadside near the residence of Thomas
Mitchel on the road leading from Martin to Carnesville. Upon the oaths of John
McCall, L. P. Price and others sworn according to law as jurors and charged by
W. H. Sorrows to inquire when and how and in what manner he came to his death.
We the said John McCall, L.P. Price and others make and return the
following verdict.
We the undersigned jurors find that the said J. S. Dortch came to his death
from falling from his buggy on his head and that the heavy weight of his body
broke his neck, and that the same occurred between 7 and 8 o'clock on the 29th
day of August 1891.

We the undersigned examined the dead body of James S. Dortch and found that his
neck was not broken, we believe that he died from apoplexy.
