Homer,
Yes, I've been tracking my great-great uncles as well. I have their Union records from FL D Co., 1st Cav. Rgt., but the archives either could
not find their Confed. records, or want a separate form and fee for the search. (I suspect the latter, as I requested both Union and Confederate
on the same form.) They enlisted March 11, 1864, and were mustered in March 27. The term of enlistment was 3 years. Lemuel died of typhoid fever
on May 26, 1864, while in D Company service; Leonard died about 1892. He is buried in Almarante Cemetery FL. I was under the impression that
their Florida Unit was concerned primarily with control of the Indian situation as opposed to actively fighting against the Confederacy. Can you
shed more light on this? The situation sounds similar, in a way, with Emanuel's enlistments, except he stayed with the Confederacy. You have
been such a help to us all, and we thank you!
Anita
