Homer,
A big "oops" on my part. Uncle Cornelius lived in Louisville in Barbour Co. in 1860 with his family. I believe his widow, Martha Jane Holley Williams Hendley, filed for a widow's pension while living in Lawrenceville after the war. She married Hezekiah Hendley after Uncle Cornelius's death. That's an interesting story because Hezekiah was her nephew by marriage -- he was the son of Cornelius's sister, Letha Williams Hendley.
Anyway, you also mentioned John W. Williams, who is thought to have deserted. I am fairly certain that he was one of Cornelius's younger brothers. The age is right on target for our John Wesley Williams.
Thanks again for the info you have provided. I haven't had time to read the E-book yet, but I will get to it as soon as I can.
In the meantime, if any of the above names ring a bell with Dale County researchers, I'd be happy to compare notes.
Cyn
