Shirley,
Had to do first w/ distance and most
importantly, money; to my knowledge
the Confederate Govt did not make it
a policy of returning remains; this was
left to the family; in the thousands of
sites I have located, have not found more
than three dozen who I can say were
actually returned; one pretty pitiful one
up in Bullock where a Mother and one
of the family slaves went by wagon
from Union Springs to Pensacola to
bring her young son home; another here In Ozark where two sibs went to
Eufaula
to pick-up a brother who was to arrive
on leave by train; he was there, but in
a box.
Those I have found in this area were mostly members of the more
affluent families.
Since the war over in Ga was almost
in their backyards, many Ga soldiers
were returned home there.
Deo Vindice,
Homer T.
