Hi Michelle, it seems like several good points were made about the
memorial being a Black Granite Wall much like the Vietnam Memorial in
D.C. The reason for making it a wall and not a walkway I think was best
captured by Willie in Ino California, he said "...instead of putting
them down to be stepped on like our ancestor's memories are now being
done by the politically correct..." I would think any idea would
require the research efforts of many people but most assuredly that of
Homer Jones who is the premier Civil War researcher in Dale County. I
would love to help in any way I can and to contribute time and money to
help make this a reality. There needs to be a great deal of planning,
organizing and discussion to come up with a solid design, a location for
the design and then the funds to put it all together. I have a vision
in my head that I could sketch out to help begin the process if you
would like. In my humble opinion, this would be a confederate memorial
unless there is enough interest and funding to make it more. Like any
project that is born out of an idea, it requires a great deal of effort
from many people to make it happen. Maybe a committee needs to be
established. Some of the people that come to mind for a committee
include Homer Jones, The Mayor, The president of the Historical Society,
The President of The UDC, and The President of the Chamber of Commerce
among others. The smaller the committee the more likely a project will
actually be accomplished. I look forward to hearing from you on your
thoughts. Call me at (321) 946-9985 and we can begin a dialog to make
this happen.

Subject: [DALE COUNTY] Brick Monument
As the Chapter President of the Stonewall Jackson Chapter #667, United
Daughters of the Confederacy, Ozark, Alabama, I will speak with my
members
about the brick walk idea. We are planning the 100th anniversary of our
chapter's charter in March 2003. The walkway memorial would add to the
celebration. We hope to have a Ball and all descendants of War Between
the
States veterans are invited. We also have an annual memorial ceremony
at
the Dale Co. Courhouse, by the monument, on Confederate Memorial Day in
April each year. If Mr. Dillard would let me know any information he
may
find, our group may be willing to work on this project.
I also have a wonderful connection to a local bricklayer who does
beautiful work.
Thank you,
Michelle Glaze
