Hello Miss Betsey,
As we have a wonderful caring list here, it was brought to my attention that this email was directed to me, and I apologize for not responding yesterday. As I was flooded with mail yesterday, I was evidently neglectful and deleted this particular message.

I actually know nothing about the "TILLETTS". These are my husbands people and I have not had a chance to shake this tree hard enough to filter out the branches.
However, I am in contact with a descendent of Mary Elizabeth Stephenson Tillett Holmes and as of now, she knows nothing of these folks either. She lives in Texas and relies on me to find various things for her as I rely on her to relay various data to me.
I just spent Saturday at our Houston Memorial Library here in Dothan, and I did not run across any Tillets while researching.
I do hope to get out and do some short distance travelling in October when our school system is out, and may be able to get to Clayton to do more research there. I will certainly keep it in mind and will let you know if I uncover anything.
Sincerely
Mary

Mary,
I have seen the Mary Stevenson marriage to Thomas Tillett 8/11/1850 in Barbour Co before, I believe on a typed list of Alabama or Barbour Co. marriages. I was very interested in Thomas because I felt that the name might be in error and he could be Thomas Pillett. I looked all over Alabama but could not come up with a surname that was even close to Tillett. There are some Pillet men in Benton Co (Calhoun) in 1850 census. Do you have any other information on Thomas Tillett? He must have died shortly after his marriage or perhaps in the WBS since Mary Stevenson remarried in 1865.

My gggrandfather Samuel Pilot married Margaret Jeanette Floyd in Barbour Co in 1846. On a land deed he lists himself as being from Dale Co. Pilot was often spelled a variety of ways, including Pillett.

Thanks

Betsy Pylate Simpson
