Thank you to both Harry and Charles for your input. Yes, the son of Obediah
Dick, William C. Dick, married Mary Frances Andrews. I did not have the
middle name of Chester for William C. Dick's & Mary Frances Andrews' son William,
so that is additional information. According to what I have, you are both
talking about the same people. I know a lot about Obediah before he migrated to
Dale County and died there, but I am still gathering information on his
descendants in the Dale County area. I've corresponded with a number of people about
this family during the past few years, and I hope to do some further research
when I'm in Alabama this month.

Harry, I would be very interested if you happen to have any photos of the
concerned property, etc., that you can e-mail to me, even if it's of the
adjoining property. It would help me to visualize the area.

Generally speaking, I still wonder about the belief that the man who moved
from NC to Alabama and died before the 1830 census carried the name "Thomas" as
part of his name (I'm not being critical but rather querying others, Harry -
and thank you for attaching that information, which echoes what I had on the
family). Obediah's father may have duplicated a Christian name, but I would
certainly want to see direct evidence that Obediah used that name in any kind of
public or private record. Therefore, my question would be: is there a
document in the Dale County records which clearly pertains to the patriarch Obediah,
and not the grandson or great-grandson Thomas Obediah Dick, which uses this
combination of names? He was never known by that name in North Carolina, and,
as I've stated before, he had a brother named Thomas who was one of the
biggest landholders in Guilford County during his prime. I would like to resolve
this question, if possible.

Harry, thank you again for an informative and helpful response. Can you
suggest any points of interest in Dale County or the surrounding area, in terms of
the family's history?

Katherine Dick Benbow
