I wish I had known this earlier. Thanks for passing along the info. I used
to attend Sanford University in Birmingham. Sanford used to be the old
Howard College that was, at one time, next door to my house in Perry County
Alabama. I played on the burned out columns when I was young and some of my
family remember the night it burned down. Then Howard moved to Birmingham
and, the semester that I attended in 1964 or 65 it was still called Howard.
I remember riding the bus from the West End over to Howard for night
classes. I know they must have some really good records in regard to the
Baptist church but do they have census reports and things like that? Next
time I get down to Alabama I am going to stop by Sanford. Thanks for
sharing this.

I found some records at the Library in Birmingham, in particular the obits
of some of my relatives. I also found records at the archives in
Montgomery. Two men who worked there tried to talk me out of looking at the
1890 census telling me that it had burned and no one ever found any
ancestors in there. However, I already knew that three of my kinfolk were
in the 1890 census record and got them to pull it. They both said they had
never met anyone who had an ancestor in their 1890 census. LOLL! It was a
lot of fun. I also found the records where my great grandfather and my
granduncle were commissioned as Justices of the Peace.

We passed right by Sanford but didn't think to stop. Next time I'll put it
on my list.
