MAJOR CROSSLAND BURIED.
The funeral of Major W. A. Crossland who died early Friday morning
after a prolonged illness, took place yesterday morning at 10 o'clock
from his late residence, 617 South Hull street, and was largely
attended.
The love and esteem in which this splendid gentleman was held by
many friends in Montgomery was evidenced by an abundance of beautiful
flowers that decked the bier.
Major Crossland was a Confederate veteran and a prominent member of
the Knights of Pythias. He was 72 years old, the greater part of which
time, he had lived in Montgomery.
Rev. J. A. Rice, pastor of the Court Street Methodist Church,
officiated. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: - Robert
Tait, John Cook, W. P. Carter, V. M. Elmore, J. B. Collier, J. W. A.
Sanford, E. W. S??y and George Stuart. - Interment was made in Oakwood
Cemetery.
The above was taken from the Montgomery Advertiser of Sunday. The
many friends of Mr. Crossland in Camden and Wilcox County, will be
pained to hear of his death. He lived here many years and was well
known and highly esteemed.
