Mrs. Vernie Mitchell and son Herbert of Talladega visited her daughter Mrs.
Annie Miller last week.

Clyde Carr spent the holidays with home folks.

Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins served a turkey dinner last Sunday to the following
guests: Mr. and Mrs. Boggs and children; Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Mitchell; Mr. and
Mrs. Lucius Dial; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Sims and children; Misses Ettie Collins
and Ista Mitchell; Messrs. Bryan McCollough and Whiten Collier; Misses
Mollye, Delia and Dollye Morris and Messrs. J.D. Ingram and Guy Dulin.

LOCAL News

While Sheriff Adams and Deputy Black were on the job last week they succeeded
in locating and destroying two "wild cat stills" which were made of galvanized
iron. About 500 gallons of beer were destroyed. The sheriff now has about
ten "way-bills" to stills and expects to make a big haul during this week.

Mrs. E.C. Allen and children and Mollie Morris visited Mrs. Ellie Willingham
on Saturday.

Mrs. John Ingram visited her daughter Mrs. W.O. Dial on Saturday.

HEPSABAH News

Joe Sasnett and son Jesse of Delta visited P.T. Howle on Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Ayres are visiting their daughter Mrs. Roy Roberts near
Oxford.

Mrs. P.F. Currie is at Anniston with her husband who is in the hospital.

Nannie Ayres was the guest of her aunt, Mrs. W.J. Thrash on Wednesday.

LOCAL News

Arthur Vaughan has moved to his pretty new home ten miles northwest of
Arbacoochee.
__

Mrs. Flora Johnson of Edwardsville accompanied by Mrs. James Brown and two
children Troy and Erma, visited friends and relatives at Heflin the latter
part of last week.
__

Mr. Roy Simpson of Hightower and Miss Ezmer Gray of Heflin were happily
married at the courthouse last Saturday afternoon, probate clerk Glasgow
officiating. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Gray.
__

Grady Morgan, who came home for Christmas, who now lives in Dallas, Texas,
writes that he and his family had a nice trip west. He sends a picture of
Alabama delegation or Farm Bureau Federation who went to Dallas to study
conditions.
__

News comes to Heflin that Miss Clyde Tolleson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse
R. Tolleson, of Hartselle, has a position in a bank at that place. We all
remember MIss Clyde as a bright, pretty little girl, a graduate of Cleburne
County High School.

REV. D.A. SOX DIED SATURDAY

Mr. N.A. Sox of Edwardsville received a telegram on the morning of the 7th,
bringing the sad news of the death of his brother, Rev. D.A. Sox, who passed
away early Saturday at his home in Columbia, S.C. Mr. Sox was well and
favorably known to hundreds of the citizens of Cleburne County, having moved
to Edwardsville close to forty years ago. He was known in many ways, as he was
a Lutheran minister and a great and earnest educator, almost laying the
foundation of education in Cleburne and is given the credit and honor of
having conducted the first teacher's institute ever held in the county and has
taught hundreds to read and not one to sin. Mr. Sox was in his sixty-seventh
year. The news of Mr. Sox's death was sad intelligence not only to his
brother but hundreds of others who knew him in life. His brother at
Edwardsville was unable to attend the funeral owing to his own illness and who
has been confined to his room for three weeks with a severe carbuncle. To the
bereaved, The News extends sincere sympathy in their hour of grief.

Miss Beulah Houston of Shoddy, Tenn., spent the holidays with relatives at
this place.

Mr. and Mrs. Luther Hendrix spent Xmas with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sol
Teague.

Joe Cox of Arkansas spent Xmas with homefolks.

Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Teague visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Bell this
week.

Arthur Charles and Robert Kennedy were home for the holidays.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hilley of Bell Mills were visiting their parents Mr. and Mrs.
George Caine this week.

LOCAL News

J.W. Kilgore and T.D. Jarrels of Delta 3 were pleasant callers at The News
office on Monday.

OAK LEVEL News

J.T. Jones' home was burned Friday at 11 o'clock. Everything was burned
except two trunks and one mattress. The family was way from home when the fire
occurred.

Jerome Hill of Birmingham spent last week with his uncles, A.M. Roberts and
J.A. Rogers.
__

Will Laminack of Crossville, Tenn., spent the weekend at this place.
__

Mrs. Jewell Laminack who has been visiting here for some time has returned to
her Tennessee home.
__

Mr. P.L. Roberts and Mrs. Rebecca Tompson were happily married Jan. 8th. Mrs.
Tompson's home was in Iron City.
__

On New Years Day, Mr. John Sanfrantell and Miss Lena Kimberly were married.
__

G.W. Roberts and Miss Otilla Rogers visited "Aunt" Mary reed who is quite sick.
__

The many friends of Mrs. Tom Body deeply sympathize with her in the tragic
death of her brother Mr. Earnest Dodgens who was killed in Birmingham on
Tuesday by an automobile. Mr. Dodgens was about twenty five years old and
unmarried.

Mrs. C.W. Griffin left today for an extended visit with relatives in Temple,

Mrs. Roy Entrekin has returned to her home in Douglasville after a weeks visit
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Wager.

ADMINISTRATOR'S SETTLEMENT NOTICE
State of Alabama, Cleburne County Probate Court
January Term 1922

This day came W.A. Brown, administrator of the estate of W.H. Hogan, deceased,
and files his account, vouchers, evidence, statement for final settlement of
his administration of said estate. It is ordered that the 10th day of
February 1922 be appointed a day on which to make such settlement at which
time all persons interested can appear and contest the said settlement if they
think proper. Witness my hand this 10th day of January 1922. D.S. Baber,

Married at DeArmanville on Wednesday, Dr. F.R. Wood and Miss Ressie Swafford,
a popular lady of Calhoun county. Dr. and Mrs. Wood will make their home in
Heflin where they have been accorded a hearty welcome and best wishes.

Joyce Elizabeth Pyron, age 5, only child of Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Pyron, was
instantly killed when struck by passenger train No. 8 at the crossing just
west of the depot here about 6:30 last Saturday night. It is said that the
child and a negro girl attending little Joyce, had been down town to make some
purchases and were on their way back and just as the two were about clearing
the railroad tracks, the train caught the unfortunate child, the wheels of the
engine severing both feet and crushing the back part of her skill, besides
inflicting other bruises on the body. It is said that no one knew of the
tragedy until the negro girl made it known, which she did immediately. Little
Joyce was an unusually bright and sweet little girl, and devoted especially to
her papa, and you seldom saw one without the other on the streets. The
terrible tragedy is sincerely regretted by all our people whose sympathy is
extended to Mr. and Mrs. Pyron in the hour of sadness. The remains of the
child were shipped to Acworth, GA on Sunday where the funeral and interment
occurred. Besides her parents she is survived by her grandparents, Mrs. Pyron
of Acworth and Mr. and Mrs. G.D. Callahan of Atlanta.

Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Groover were the guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Beck
on Sunday.

Dr. F. Richard Wood and Miss Ressie Swafford announce their marriage which
occurred yesterday at the parsonage of the First Baptist Church with Rev. L.N.
Claxton officiating.

WM. P. BABER DIED TUESDAY

William P. Baber, forty years old, died at his home a short distance east of
Edwardsville on Tuesday morning at nine o'clock after an illness extending
back three or four years. Mr. Baber was a brother of Circuit Court Clerk
Baber, a nephew of Judge D.S. Baber and son of Mr. A.J. Baber, one of the
county's oldest and best known citizens. The deceased is survived by his
widow and seven children, besides a large circle of relatives and friends to
mourn his death. The funeral and interment took place at Edwardsville on
Wednesday morning. The News extends sympathy to the bereaved family.

Mrs. J.P. Carnes visited her daughter, Mrs. Holder of Douglasville, GA last
week.

Mrs. J.J. Vance of Tallapoosa has been the guest of her son Elvin the past
week.
__

"Uncle" George Thrower returned the first of the week from an extended visit
with Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Taylor at Tuscaloosa.
__

PALESTINE News

Mrs. J.V. Hardin who has been spending the last week with her daughter at
Tecumseh, returned to her home at Palestine Sunday afternoon.
