NEWSPAPER Issue of Thursday, September 28, 1911
OBITUARY for J.C. GIBBS
Whereas the grim reaper death, has again invaded our community and taken from
us our dear brother J.C. Gibbs and whereas Bro. Gibbs was a man of unswerving
integrity and loyalty to truth and right, and whereas he was a loyal and
faithful member of the Heflin Chapter No. 33, Order of the Eastern Star; a
kind an loving husband and father; a faithful friend, an upright christian
gentleman. Therefore be it resolved by Heflin Chapter No. 33, Order of the
Eastern Star, first; that our chapter has lost one of its very best members,
and that we mourn his loss but not as those who have no hope; for we feel that
what is our loss in his eternal and infinite gain. Resolved second; that we
recognize and bow to the will of our god for this dispensation of his
providence; that as Longfellow has expressed it;
"We see dimly through these mists and vapor,
amid these earthly damps
what seems to us but sad, funeral tapers,
may be heaven's distant lamps."
Resolved third; that his family has suffered an irreparable loss; the church
a loyal faithful member, and the community an esteemed citizen.
Resolved fourth; that we tender to his loved ones our deepest sympathy and
commend them to the god of all grace who has promised to be a husband to the
widow and a father to the fatherless.
Resolved fifth, that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved
family; a copy recorded in our book of minutes and a copy be furnished the
Heflin papers for publication.
Respectfully submitted,
C.B. Boman
Lou Ttkins
Mattie Hunnicutt, Committee
