_______
IN MEMORIAM OF MRS. JANE BOWDEN
The subject of this sketch, Mrs. Jane Dorthy Bowden, was born Oct. 2, 1835 and
died at her home Feb. 3, 1913. These dates mark the beginning and closing of
a beautiful life, one spent for god and his service. She was reared in a
christian home and very early in life gave herself to christ and his service.
For many years prior to her going away she was deprived the privilege of
attending the services of the church but her faith frew strong and brighter
all the while, as she held sweet communion with her lord and she never forgot
to remember her pastor in her petitions to her heavenly father. Aunt Jane, as
she was called, having a large family of connections, in all their homes was
welcomed as an angel of love. No woman was of more value to her loved ones,
her friends and neighbors. Her faith in god was not only a comfort to her in
her lonely hours but gave strength to all who knew her.
She lived in life's higher realm, she knew how to grow old gracefully; she
kept the winter out of her soul. She was an ideal sister in her home. She was
unselfish, so gentle, so kind, so sympathetic, her devotion to her loved ones
was so great, so tender, that her vacant home brings sore grief to the entire
family circle. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances and yet
wherever she went her christian character shone out to gladden the hearts of
all with whom she came in touch with. Pure in life, lovable in disposition,
she met every duty and friend, every obligation, and when the end came she was
ready.
During the last few weeks of her life she was a great sufferer, but bore her
suffering with great fortitude and with resignation to the will of god. She
had very attention that could be rendered by her loved ones, but her work was
done, and as the evening shadows came on she fell asleep as a "weary child on
her savior's breast." Aunt Jane is gone but not dead. Her noble christian
life is a warrant enough to say that the dim light of this world was lost from
her view; the light of the glory would burst upon her sight and the sweet
music of the angel bands thrilled her soul with glory. Weep not, loved ones,
for ere long you shall gather together if you are faithful to the end. A
friend.

DEATH OF MRS. MOLLIE NICHOLS
On Thursday evening at 2 o'clock, Mrs. Mollie Nichols passed away. She leaves
a husband and five children to mourn her sad departure, two girls and three
boys. She was a christian wife and mother and friend to those in her
neighborhood. We all sympathize with the sad family. She will be missed by her
friends and neighbors as well as her family. She joined the Methodist church
in Georgia several years ago but took her letter out when she moved to
Alabama. She said she did not want to die with her letter out of the church.
They called a meeting and she put her letter in at Liberty Hill. We are sorry
to lose such a christian. It was god's will and his way be done. She was the
wife of R.D. Nichols. Two of her brothers came to see her for the last time.
She was buried at Liberty Hill on Friday at 4 o'clock. She said she was ready
to go and wanted her friends to meet her in a better world than this.
" Thou art gone our precious darling,
But your face we can't forget,
But we hope to meet you later,
and this sad parting to forget."
